Interested in Membership?

The best way to get started is to come out and visit the club. You can be the guest of any club member or board member so that you can become familiar with the club. Summer weekends are the best time to meet with members as this is when most club activity occurs. If you are new to sailing and not sure what boat suits you best, be sure to talk with the fleet captains or members of the different sailboat classes as they can offer lots of advice. If you are a complete novice, sailing school is the best starting point. usually held in late June or early July.

If you are interested in joining the club after your initial visit, you will want to obtain a membership application from a club member, board member, or downloaded from the website. It helps to get to know a club member as they can sponsor your application. Submit your application along with the applicable initiation fee and first year's dues to a board member. Within one week the membership chairman will inform you as to the disposition of your application.

Membership Expectations

• Each active member (family) must be the legal owner or part owner of a sailboat on Crystal Lake. Associate members have an interest in sailing but do not own a boat. 
• Each member (family) is expected to pay annual dues and fees by February 1st.
• There are two annual work bees at Crystal Sailing Club.  In early May the Club is officially opened for the season and is thoroughly cleaned, Sunfish racks installed along the seawall and sunfish removed from winter storage in the Club and place on the racks, wooden dock sections placed on their stanchions in the water and boat hoists moved to their respective positions along the dock.   The grounds are picked up and any necessary repairs made to the facility.  In late September or early October this process is reversed in preparation for ending the sailing season and closing the Club for the winter.  Dates for these events are published well in advance.    It is expected that each member will participate in both these activities.
• Although CSC employs a cleaning service to clean the Club weekly, it is expected that each member will be responsible for helping maintain the Club's appearance and safety by conscientiously taking care of their personal belongings and those Club items that they or their guests may use.
• As CSC is a member owned and maintained facility there are a number of things that each member should be aware of and "handle" if necessary.
• If you are the last person out of the Club on Sunday afternoon/evening, make sure the flag(s) are down and put away: all trash baskets are emptied into the large green trash bin and it is put out to the "curb";  all exterior doors are locked from the inside: all lights are turned off: the furnace is turned down to 55: the water heater is turned down to WARM: make sure no toilets or outside faucets are running:  the computer is turned off, unplugged and the whole unit rolled next to the piano; the fireplace screen is in place, especially if there are embers in the fireplace.
• If you notice persons on the grounds that are not familiar, inquire about their presence.  If they do not indicate an interest In the Club, advise them that the Club grounds, launch ramp and parking areas are private property.  In the case of children, especially on the dock or around the boats, find out their names and where they live.  Either contact the parents and politely advise them of their children's trespass or immediately contact the commodore.
• The rope across the launch ramp driveway should always be in place unless it is being used by a member of the Sheriff's deputies. The rope across the parking lot driveway should be in place when the parking lot is empty.
• Report any needed repairs to the House Committee or the Commodore.  If the repair is minor and you are capable, consider making the repair yourself.
• Common courtesy is not so common in today's world. At CSC, courtesy and caring make  membership enjoyable and rewarding.  Go out of you way to make your CSC "shipmates" feel comfortable and safe.
