About CSC
Welcome to Crystal Sailing Club......
CSC is a non-profit organization incorporated in 1961 to promote the sport of sailing on Crystal. The Club is dedicated to providing its members and guests with safe and pleasant access to the waters of Crystal Lake for the primary purpose of small sailboat cruising and racing.
Crystal Sailing Club sits on approximately 2 acres of waterfront property that features:
- 1,800 square foot clubhouse w/full kitchen, men's & women's bath/shower rooms, tack & locker room, large common room with natural stone fireplace and lots of glass overlooking the covered patio and waterfront. Clubhouse features include a folding plate roof and clerestory windows designed by Michigan Architect and CSC member Elmer Manson 1964.
- 200' of seawalled shoreline
- 200' of 5' foot wide wooden dock
- dock spaces for up to 40 boats on hoists or moorings
- waterside racks for Sunfish
- 6 mooring/rigging buoys
- private launch ramp
- large parking and trailer storage area
- large expanse of shaded lawn conducive to picnics and lawn games
- Boston Whaler rescue/crash boat
Parking for dry sailed boats, boat trailers and cars in the Club's 1 1/2 acre lot across North Shore Drive is available to CSC members and their guests. There are even electrical hookups for those who might like to pitch a tent or set up an RV for the weekend.
Because all this is member owned and maintained, a full annual family membership (including dock space, locker, Sunfish rack and trailer storage) costs less than a weekend family excursion to Chicago. Not only that, but members enjoy the security of having the Montcalm County Sheriff's patrol boat permanently stationed at CSC's dock.
And yes, we have sailboats! Along with a "mixed fleet", Flying Scot Fleet 41 and Sunfish Fleet 370 call CSC home. It is our intent to adopt another class of small sailboat to create a 3rd active fleet of one-design boats, this year. Our boats not only see cruising activity but some participate in races/regattas at Crystal and other venues in the Midwest, East Coast and Florida. Annually CSC hosts a Flying Scot invitational regatta known as the Crystal Ball in early September.
While enjoyment of sailing is the Club's main objective, other events draw members and guests to our shores. Among these are the periodic Big Band Night, featuring a 20 piece 40's style dance band, and the family campout weekend. Our community service shows itself with the hosting of the annual Crystal Lake owner's association meeting, various community meetings, county sponsored water safety courses and CSC's own sailing school.
CSC's MISSION
To advance and improve the enjoyment of sailing small boats in the Central Michigan area without regard for race, ethnic origin, age, gender or economic status.
CSC's VISION
The needs of any person wishing to learn and enjoy the sport of small boat sailing will be met in a comfortable and safe environment.
CSC's GOAL
Provide a safe and inexpensive venue on Crystal Lake for those wishing to share fellowship and experience with likeminded sailors.
